Alberto-Culver Co. plans to cut 2% of its work force and may close a plant as part of a restructuring effort following the November spinoff of its Sally Beauty Holdings Inc. beauty supply distribution business.

The company plans to cut 90 jobs from its staff of 3,800. The move is expected to be finished by the end of the second quarter

Alberto-Culver also plans to sell its corporate jet in early 2007 and close a Dallas manufacturing facility. Alternately, the company said it will open a plant in Jonesboro, AR that will employ 400 people.

Rich Mewborn, vice president of worldwide operations for Alberto-Culver, said that when the manufacturing plant in Dallas closes, most of that plant’s production will be shifted to Jonesboro. Production is scheduled to start in 2008, and the company expects to have 400 people working once the plant is at full speed.
